Wild Blueberry Pecan Protein Smoothie [Clean, Vegan, GF, Low Carb]...And A Dash of Cinnamon

#WildYourSmoothie with this easy, clean, vegan, gluten-free, low carb, protein-packed, antioxidant rich wild blueberry pecan protein smoothie. With only a handful of ingredients, a lot of ice and a blender, this delicious smoothie can be yours for the sipping (or spooning if you are like me and like them thick!)

Wild Blueberry Pecan Protein Smoothie [Clean, Vegan, GF, Low Carb]...And A Dash of Cinnamon By posting this recipe I am entering a recipe contest sponsored by the Wild Blueberry Association of North America and I am eligible to win prizes associated with the contest. I was very excited when I received an email offering participation in the #WildYourSmoothie contest. I love blueberries and I especially love wild blueberries, or homegrown ones. I can personally vouch for the difference that these blueberries have when compared to the ones often found in the little containers in your local grocery store.

How do I know this? Because at home, we have blueberry bushes. I NEVER knew how much of a difference there was in taste, size etc until our bushes first started producing. It really is amazing and would recommend homegrown, or wild blueberries over the regular store bought ones any day. Whenever we had a huge haul, we’d immediately freeze them as well to keep all their amazing nutritional properties at their peak. Then, I’d bring the frozen bags with me to school etc so that I could have fresh frozen blueberries all year around to use in my recipes!

The great thing about wild blueberries, is that you can find them in the frozen section. You may think…”But they are frozen…not fresh”. This, though, is a good thing. They are frozen right at their peak when they are picked. This way, they will retain their luscious taste and nutrients better. Besides, frozen blueberries are perfect for throwing straight into a blender to whip up a quick and healthy smoothie!

Want to know some other fun facts? Wild blueberries pack twice as many antioxidants, have a better, more intense flavor. Trust me when I say that antioxidants are GREAT for your body in so many ways. (They help with free radical damage.) I can tell you that writing this post makes me sorely miss my own blueberry plants and am quite jealous of the people up in Maine where the wild blueberries come from! Up there, the blueberries are natural and are not planted, either!

This is the most common brand, but there are plenty of smaller ones!

You should be able to find wild blueberries in the frozen section of your grocery store. The key is to make sure that the package says wild. Wild Blueberry Pecan Protein Smoothie [Clean, Vegan, GF, Low Carb]

Prep Time 5 minutes
Servings 1 smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup frozen wild blueberries
  • 1 scoop pea protein powder (unflavored, or vanilla)
  • 1 t vanilla extract (omit if using flavored protein)
  • 1 t cinnamon
  • 1 tray ice
  • 1/2 cup water/liquid of choice
  • 1 T psyllium husk powder
  • 1 T pecans crushed

Instructions

  1. Place a small amount of liquid at the bottom of your blender (enough to coat the bottom)

  2. Add all your ingredients except rest of liquid, ice and pecans

  3. Top with the rest of the liquid, followed by the ice and blend completely

  4. Top with crushed pecans/mix them in the smoothie afterwards

  5. Eat and enjoy!

Recipe Notes

You may need more or less liquid depending on how thick you like your smoothies

I used unflavored pea protein

-pea protein is thick, psyllium powder is a thickener. These may cause you to need more liquid. If omitting, you may need less (again depends on how thick you like your smoothies)

If you are not used to psyllium husk powder, go low and start slow. Drink plenty of liquid

    What?! You lucky duck. That must be AMAZING! The crushed pecans would give a nice texture and flavour – sounds like a great smoothie. I will try it after my next workout!

    1. Aw thank you! Voting starts Feb 28. As for home…yeah I love home so much. Our garden was amazing and I miss it all the time. The blueberries were an excellent decision. I loved having huge harvests and freezing them and having them all year around. I really am a texture person and love the additional crunch. Those pecans for sure got mixed in after the picture, which I highly suggest!

    1. Recently I started experimenting with various plant based protein powders because they tend to be a lot cleaner. Once you get used to the pea protein taste it’s awesome. If you like thick/dense then pea is for sure the way to go. It’s also super easy to make savory or sweet which is something else that I like about it.
