Hummus Balls... And A Dash of CInnamon

Love hummus, but wish you could take it with you more easily? Why not try making these fun hummus balls! They are bite size snacks that you can graze on and take with you for snack if you want! They may be small, but they pack a good bit of protein and a bit healthy fat to satisfy.

Hummus Balls... And A Dash of CInnamon

So my first call was Saturday. I covered 3 hospitals. (Only 2 of which I knew the location of) and I still hadn’t been fully trained on all of the computer systems. I also don’t really know how to get around the city all that well, let alone how to get around in the hospitals themselves. I was only given a brief tour of one of them (that I may add is a cool 2.3 million square feet in size).

Pretty much everything related to anything about call going into it

Call for my residency is different from that during my intern year. There, if you were on call, you stayed in the hospital until at least 9pm and took care of any problems on the floor, did admissions, went to codes. Here, I take home call from 7a-7a. From what I gather, we see anything we get consulted for, whether it be from the ER or from an inpatient team. I’m not quite sure how it works when we are in clinic and get consulted since there is not a dedicated person only covering consults. So, perhaps some days you don’t get any calls, and other days you get slammed. The biggest similarity is that I now again have a pager.

Mine looks slightly different, but they pretty much all function the same. High tech let me tell you lol. I was so happy to have turned in my last pager, but alas I have another one. Boo! Haha. However, I did know that I would be getting another one, so at least I wasn’t surprised. My new one kept going off and beeping like crazy. It WAS SO ANNOYING. All of a sudden though I figured out maybe what the cause what. I was all like STOP!

WAIT! I THINK I KNOW WHY IT IS BEEPING!

You see, I realized that it was going off the most whenever it seemed to get bumped. Sure enough, I checked the battery and it was just slightly loose. So, every time it got bumped, it would think it was restarting, or something I guess and go through some sort of check. I was SO happy when I figured that one out.

Overall, it was not that bad. I got a couple consults and had to see a couple follow ups. No emergency room calls and I was not up all night (unlike my co-resident on call before me who was up ALL night, which sucks). I still don’t know where that 3rd hospital is, nor where the ERs are lol, but I have a slightly better idea of how to work 2 of the computer systems (maybe) and what to do on consults. So, I’ll call it a success. I’m on call from 7am this Thursday to 7am Sunday morning, though, SOOOOOO well see how that goes. Wish me luck!

How do you feel about hummus?

Any pager mishaps for any medical people out there?

Ingredients
Servings: dozen (but depends on ball size)
Instructions
  1. Throw all your ingredients into a food processor and process! You may have to scrap it a bit, it will be thick but you want it to be moldable.
  2. Once processed, scoop out a bit with a spoon and mold into a ball. Continue until all the balls are made
  3. Pop them in the fridge if you want, or just eat them then. Store in an air-tight container in the fridge.
Recipe Notes
  1. If you have a certain way you like to make hummus, feel free to use that. Just don't add oil. You want to be able to mold these. These ingredients are able to be adjusted depending on your taste preferences.
  2. If you feel like they are too thick, then add just a touch of water to thin it out a bit.

  1. These sound great. You are a total pro with awesome grab n’ go snacks – I love it.
Wowzers! You are a busy lady! I would feel really anxious about trying go figure everything out (3 hospitals?????), but you seem to take it in stride pretty well. Hope you feel more comfy and settled in soon =)

    1. Haha yesss total pro status. Success. Thanks for the compliment! Super busy. It’s nutty. Actually there are even more hospitals…but only 3 that I cover when I’m on call in the city. There are 3 other ones too! GAH! I don’t know where the other one is in the city nor where another one is out in a different city but I guess I’ll figure it out when I rotate there. I feel like I’m a mess but hey if externally I look good and in stride then I will for sure take it! I hope I’ll feel more settled too but well see. After this week I leave for a couple of months…soooo maybe not. Oh well.
