I am for sure a fan of hummus, and generally prefer making my own so that I can control exactly what is in it and can make sure that it is clean. However, I’m always up for trying different hummus! I have long been a fan of Sabra regular hummus. Over the past year I ate plenty of the ones that came with the pretzels on top because they were easy to get at my last hospital. Therefore, when I was asked to check out their new Spreads collection? I was like yeah, I’m for sure in!

These bad boys come in squeeze bottles! Not necessary, of course, but super convenient and you don’t have to use an extra utensil to get it out. I’m always concerned about contaminating the hummus that I have left in my container and thereby making it go bad sooner, but with a squeeze bottle that concern is totally eliminated!

There are three different flavors in Sabra’s new line of Spreads: Garlic Herb, Honey Mustard, and Sea Salt & Cracked Pepper. How neat are those combos? Each are popping with flavor and you can definitely which hummus is which with your eyes closed. There was no skimping on flavor ingredients for any of these hummus spreads.

Each would be easy to swap out for your regular sandwich spreads such as mayonnaise. I don’t advocate low-fat diets, but saturated fats are not the best for you. Also, store bought mayo generally has high fructose corn syrup in it, too which really isn’t great for you. Therefore, this would be an easy swap to make. (If you do follow a low-fat diet, these spreads have 75% less fat than mayo if you are interested). For those of you that eat clean, the garlic herb and the sea salt & Cracked Pepper are the cleaner of the bunch. The honey mustard does include sugar and brown sugar in the ingredient list.

I had plenty of ideas to use these spreads, but this is the first one that popped into my head. I am a huge fan of cubans and reubens (except the swiss cheese part) so actually this is more like a cuban reuben blend. I figured the honey mustard would be an excellent swap out for the mustard that usually is found on a cuban and let me tell you it is! Like I mentioned, this is not a cuban. I added different ingredients and I don’t have pork or swiss cheese on here, but I did say inspired! Not a copy cat. Feel free to add things/change things around if you so prefer! Toasting it is a major key, though. I am for sure going to be making more of these and thank goodness I’ve got a whole tube of Sabra spreads to do so. Feel free to check out other bloggers great ideas for the new Sabra Spreads below.

Recipe Notes

  1. I use baked ham because it is less processed. Feel free to use any type of ham you have.
  2. Toast your sandwich with whatever you've got. I used a George Foreman, but you could use a panini press, sandwich maker, griddle, quesadilla maker, broiler...Be creative! If you need help, just shoot me a message and we will figure something out!

    1. It was so tasty. I really enjoyed it. So redux means to re-invent/revive and for the redux recipe posts, the philosophy is to try and re-invent the idea of healthy food, that contrary to popular opinion that it can taste awesome and delicious. The recipe redux posts that I do are part of a large group of bloggers that believe in this philosophy. Many are RDs and/or in the nutrition field. (I obviously am not an RD though haha)
