Ok, so I got really lucky. My sight unseen apartment is nice! Yay! I was so worried. My dad has said before “You can live anywhere for a year”. I thought that might be true at one point, but now I’m not so sure. He said that before for my first apartment for medical school. I should have trusted my instinct when I said, “No, no I can’t live here”. Even more so when he said, “Just think of it like camping”. Say what?

Actually…this tent is nicer than my apartment was…

Now don’t get me wrong, I love camping and love being outdoors. However, an apartment is not suppose to feel like camping. Let’s just say it was a terrible year, like really, really terrible. Perhaps sometime I’ll tell you some stories from that dark time.

Actually, though, I will say I walked past it recently and saw that there was this huge sign on the window posted by the city and it had all of these violations checked off. So there, I knew there were a ton of problems with the place. I’m glad something is finally being done about it.

Ok, old memories aside, about half an hour or so before I got to my new apartment I was like “UGH, what if I have to clean it before we can move in my things?” Serious concern. I’ve had to majorly clean all my previous apartments, even though I had seen them before I had moved in (but were just left a mess :(). Therefore, I was a bit worried since I hadn’t even seen this one yet.

Guess what?! I barely had to clean anything!! It was awesome!! Yay! Haha. Know what else is really exciting? I have a washer and dryer. My own washer and dryer located in my apartment. This is huge. I haven’t had my own washer and dryer in any of my old apartments. So, for the past 9 years I’ve had to deal with carrying my wash somewhere (sometimes to a creepy basement). I am so thrilled to not have to deal with that any longer.

I’ll be doing laundry like a boss

Even better? Move in day went smoothly, stair climbing and all so I’m thankful for that! It was hot out, so it’s again time to cool off and recharge with something nice and refreshing. How about this vegetarian high protein/fiber and low carb chickpea walnut salad?

Any apartment stories out there?

Anybody have to deal with toting your laundry somewhere?

  1. Glad your move went smoothly!! I HATE moving more than anything. It’s always terribly hot and everyone is miserable and something always goes wrong. Good thing I probably won’t have to move for another two years! Also washer/dryer is a total game changer! That was a must when we were looking for new apartments. No more hoarding quarters!

    Thanks for this refreshing recipe!

    1. Me too! I’m hoping I’ll be able to stay right here for the next 3 years. The worst that happened was that a lot of my furniture got a bit damaged in one way or another (mainly missing paint now lol) over the long haul. I hope you won’t have to move for another two years either! Washer and dryer was a must for this apartment too. Trying to find quarters was the worst.

  2. Whoop! Glad to hear your move went well and your apartment isn’t a dump like you feared. 🙂

    (Still the recipe blogging goddess…)

  3. I’m super aging myself but it’s been a long time since I had to walk my laundry down a hall or down several flights of stairs but I do remember those days (though my sister once lived in a 7 floor walkup in Manhattan with the laundry in the basement – no elevator!!) Congrats on the washer/dryer inside your apartment – life changer!

    1. Yikes! Several flights of stairs would be miserable! But I suppose an excellent workout haha. I can’t even imagine move in/out day for a place like that. My new place doesn’t have an elevator either, but thankfully I only had a couple flights to walk up. It’s going to be a major life changer.
